The First Speedway League will start safely – thanks to tests for Sars-Cov-2

Almost half a thousand contenders, coaches, mechanics and clubs’ employees competing as part of the eWinner First Speedway League will be tested for coronavirus. Thanks to the tests, this year’s competition will be able to begin safely and risk-free in mid-July. The tests will be conducted at the INVICTA Laboratory, one of the most expert genetic laboratories in the country. Results will be available within 1-2 days.

The epidemic situation is a great challenge for the world of sport. If the contenders want to show a good form and fans want to enjoy sports emotions, it is necessary to take additional steps to minimise the risk of spreading infection. Just before the take off of this year’s eWinner First Speedway League, the representatives of Polish clubs will take tests detecting coronavirus.

– The tests are carried out in five speedway cities. In Łódź, Gdańsk, Tarnów, Ostrów Wielkopolski and Toruń. The INVICTA laboratory, which conducted a huge testing operation for PGE Ekstraliga, will be responsible for the testing procedure. We are therefore dealing with a proven partner. It is also worth adding that the Polish Motor Union covers the cost of tests for 25 people in each club – explains Piotr Szymański, the chairman of the Main Commission of Speedway Sport.

Carrying out the tests requires appropriate preparations. Each of the club-appointed persons had to undergo self-isolation during the days preceding the tests, i.e. reduce activity and any human contact, as well as regularly record the current state of their health. The material for analysis is a swab from the nose and throat, so it was also necessary to follow strict guidelines regarding eating and drinking a few hours before taking the test.

The tests are conducted using the rtPCR method. In order to carry out tests, it is important to have professional equipment, exquisitely trained diagnosticians and proper reagents. The solutions used in the INVICTA Laboratory allow you to detect even single copies of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, as soon as 5-7 days after the infection. With automated processes, the test is performed extremely efficiently, and the result is available after 24-36 hours.

– Only a genetic test gives an unambiguous result. This is currently the only recommended way of infection confirmation in Poland. Also in asymptomatic patients – says Katarzyna Goch, the public relations officer of the INVICTA Laboratory.

We will know the effects of testing in a few days. eWinner First League will start on 11 July.
